I was going to rant and rave about not having submissions for the newsletter, then I got flooded with submissions!! THANKS!!!!! Here’s the first newsletter of Hell’s M’s 10th year! Sorry for the delay, but I had a major computer crash & got delayed by a couple of weeks (not to mention some fumble fingered typing on the delete key, changing jobs, etc, etc). Also, my apologies to the couple of people whose submissions got lost in the crash – if you don’t see it here, please resend it.
The US AG was a wonderful way to kick off our 10th year. No matter what the official title was, it was largely staffed by, planned by, and run by Hell’s Mensans. It was (I think) a blast! It showed everyone we KNOW how to party! I’ve put some pictures up on my web page at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1076 – feel free to look.
That said, I’m going to put in a little additional plea – please send contributions! We need articles, volunteers for regular columns, recipes, and anything else you’d like to see in the newsletter. Personally, I think we don’t tell each other enough about where the good parties are – other than word of mouth. I’ve added a column for letters to the editor, and a section to promote upcoming events, gatherings, parties, whatever; and a classified ads section for people seeking roomies for gatherings, trips...
I’m really easy to contact – please call me at 301-924-3388, e-mail me at bglassford@starpower.net, postal mail me at 123 Spring Street, Gaithersburg MD 20877, or fax me at 301-330-0692. Remember – we need your contributions.
Regular columns welcome. Occasional pieces applauded. Classified ads for roomies or gatherings are free – just send ‘em in. Professional classified ads also available if you want...see ad information on cover sheet. P.S. the editor has a scanner & can do pictures now too...

Yvonne and I have attended two RG’s since the AG - the Columbus RG and the Rivers 3 RG in Pittsburgh. At each we just sat around and enjoyed talking with people. It was nice to actually get to spend time with our Mensa friends and not have to be thinking about the AG. I am really glad that I have this community to belong to. Right now our next RG will be in Chicago and I look forward to seeing many of you there and thanking you for the part you had in making the AG such a great party.
It has been a very hectic year for HELL’s M’s. I have not been able to give the SIG the time I should have. I am going to be working over the winter to get things back under control. I have had a couple of people volunteer for various jobs and this will make it easier for me to run the SIG.
Since the AG I have had 3 surgeries and the recovery on each has been more time consuming than I expected. Because of that, I have not been able to do a couple of things I said I would do at the AG. I do not have a review of the finances or a forecast on how we will need to run HELL’s M’s financially in the future. I said earlier that several people had volunteered to help out with different projects for HELL’s M’s. Well, I didn’t write down your names and I need you to contact me so I can get you the information you need to do the work you volunteered to do.
We had a very important SIG meeting at the AG and you will find a report on it later in this issue. As always we are looking for articles, jokes, pictures, recipes, or what ever you would like to share with your fellow HELL’s M’s.
We got a lot done at the meeting. The short story is that we dealt with the cash flow problem by raising the dues to $8.00 per year and eliminating the discount on the shirts. Someone (and I still haven’t found out who) started a hat going around the meeting and about $270.00 was raised. As people renewed many added a little extra to their checks to help with our cash problem. Mary Lee Kemper stepped up with 2 large checks to add to contributions (one at the AG and one at a later meeting) I hope (health willing) to have a financial report by year end. I want to show how we will handle all of our expenses - PARTY SMART, PARTY ANIMAL’s, and the miscellaneous cost of keeping the SIG in the black. If possible I hope to return to the lower dues after this year.
AG Volunteers I normally list the AG volunteers from the HELL’s M’s shift in the fall issue but I have not had time to dig out those records. I will work on having them in the list in the next issue.
CINN & DAMNations shirts Due to my health the order for these shirts did not get placed. I will be placing that order in the next week (before Oct. 2nd). I hope to get most of the shirts out before HalloweeM. If I do not, I will bring them to Chicago and pass them out there and mail the rest after HalloweeM.
Membership List A full membership list will be included in one of the next two issues of PARTY SMART. It will include addresses only.
E-Mailing PARTY SMART This was discussed at the AG meeting. If you would be willing and interested in receiving PARTY SMART via E-Mail let me know. You can contact me at skinner@hellsms.com to let me know if you are interested. Doing this will save the SIG some money. If enough people want this I will get some help on making PARTY SMART available this way. [Editor’s note: I’ve had one request so far, and can easily make Party Smart available through e-mail. Let Skinner or me know what format you prefer (Word, Word 97, RTF, HTML, plain text), and I’ll set it up) – P.S. this issue is also available on-line at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/1076]
